Pitch Construction
Earthworks
Earthworks are the foundation of any good pitch construction. We ensure that both the subsoil and topsoil are precisely graded to create a uniform surface free of uneven contours and dips. This ensures the topsoil maintains a constant depth parallel to the sub layer. State-of-the-art equipment is used to prevent compaction.

Stone Separation Procedure
Stones are removed to a depth of one inch via specialised equipment with low ground pressure tyres. Quality stone rakes sourced from America are used. Stones must be removed in order to verti drain in the future and for consist soil depths.
Cultivation
The ground is cultivated using power harrows, land levelers and rotivators to achieve a firm, free draining seedbed. A low ground pressure sand spreader is used to achieve uniform spread of the sand.
Seeding
We use a range of specialized Blec seeders to seed different surfaces as required. These seedera are aided with a cambrigde roller to increase the seed germination rate.
Drainage
Pitch Drainage
Pitch drainage is a fundamental aspect of the pitch construction and maintenance. It is essential in order to achieve a firm, free draining surface that is functional all year round.

Primary Drainage
A survey of the soil and ground conditions will be carried out on each site to establish which network system will be most effective; herron bone system or the grid system. A pipe drain network is constructed using 80-150mm diameter pipes in trenches which back filled using a suitable drainage aggregrate. This will displace water from the playing surface.

Secondary Drainage
Secondary drainage channels surface water into the primary network through silt drains. This isinstalled with minimum disruption to playing surfaces and grass recovery. Slit drains are installed parallel to each other but perpendicular to the primary drains, 1 to 1.5 meters apart. The trenches are first filled with washed pea gravel and capped with a layer of specialised sand.
Maintenance & Aftercare
Vertidrain
Vertidrain is a fundamental element of annual pitch maintenance. It aerates the soil without interrupting existing schedules. Benefits of aeration include;
-
Enhanced water diffusion through soil
-
Relieved compaction
-
Improved root structure as plant roots receiving oxygen increase their nutrient uptake.

Top Dressing
This procedure entails spreading a specialised sand over the exisiting playing surface. It is normally carried out annually in conjunction with vertidraining where budget allows. Next the sand is worked into the holes which were formed by the vertdrainer.

Overseeding
This is the process of sowing or stitching in of new grass seed into an established turf to increase existing grass density. Our machines cut narrow shallow slits in the surface and place seeds in them.

Management Programmes

Fertiliser Programmes
We offer the complete maintenance package; we design a fertiliser programme based on soil analysis and apply amenity herbicides for the selective control of weeds in the turf.

Goalmouth Resurfacing
The goalmouth of any pitch is the highest traffic area. A natural grass turf is laid on a free draining root zone to replenish the area.
